SISFA Committees

The Policy Committee and Technical Committee of SISFA are fundamental to our operation, purpose and public profile. They provide an avenue for participation from our members (especially through the State Chapters) in the all important area's of superannuation policy and technical issues affecting SMSFs.

Policy Committee

Through our Policy Committee, SISFA plays a leading role in shaping the long-term future of Australia’s retirement income system by developing policies that promote the role small independent superannuation funds have to play in that process. Over the years, SISFA has had great success in having unfair policy overturned or amended to ensure SMSFs are not disadvantaged by Government policy.

- Core functions and objectives of the Policy Committee include, but are not limited to:
- Develop policies in relation to small independent superannuation funds and matters affecting the interests of members of SISFA.
- Actively promote SISFA’s policies to the Government.
- Establish and nurture relationships with other industry associations to gain assistance with and support for SISFA’s policies.
- Through its policy development, build on the already solid foundations for SISFA to become the pre-eminent industry body in relation to small independent superannuation funds.
- Provide support to the CEO on superannuation policy issues in connection with carrying out Government liaison functions.
- In conjunction with the Technical Committee, coordinate and prepare submissions on proposed superannuation and related legislation for consideration and approval by the Board.
- Contribute policy matters to SISFA’s media releases, newsletter, website, State Chapter meetings, training/seminars, public education program, etc.
- Communicate any matters identified as superannuation or related policy to the Board for consideration.
- Work closely with the Technical Committee to prepare discussion papers, policy position statements, and regulation impact statements on issues referred by the Board.
- Report to the Board at each meeting with updates on policy development issues and related matters.
- Identify areas within Government policy requiring review or development and provide objective feedback.
